Fundraising for Refugee Aid Stroud

In October Playcircle held it’s second fundraising event for the Refugee Crisis in Calais, where as the days get colder and harder the level of suffering for an already vulnerable community of people inevitably increases. We wanted to have a part in the tremendous fundraising effort coming out of the Stroud area making a small yet tangible difference to the well being of people who's destinies still hang in the balance.

The event we’re proud to announce was another huge success!

We went all out to encapsulate a magical autumnal ambience with fiery coloured leaf mobiles, wreaths and garlands -with dramatic effect.

The story session told the of ‘The Giant Turnip’ with beautiful musical accompaniment from John Golding on the fiddle and the return of our wonderful Wendy on piano, captured the imaginations of children and parents alike.

Meanwhile on the stage there was an enchanted forest dwelling where children could pay a gold coin to make an Autumn wand. A team of busy helpers were on hand to assist parents and children – binding memories of summer and wishes for winter with brightly coloured fabric and sparkling golden threads…

There was a bumper bric-a-brac stand and scrumptious homemade cakes - which went down a treat. Alice Doherty lent us her healing hands providing tired folks with Zen Shiatsu treatments for the second year running.

For the children there was face painting, henna painting by Nich and we dedicated the whole downstairs room to Autumn inspired crafts for all ages.

Needless to say a wonderful time was had by all and although we all went home that night completely exhausted it was with the heartening knowledge that we had again raised over £1000 for Refugee Aid.

Thank you so much to all the kindness and hands on attitude of all the people who offered their time and energy – you know who you are!

And finally to all the lovely families who attend these events, not mention our regular sessions. xx
